To officially launch the Maneyacts Photography – Natural in Nature project, Dani, Charlee, and I ventured out to Perry’s Paddock in Woodvale, just north of Perth’s city centre. It was the perfect location to begin the journey, offering a rich mix of textures and backdrops. The weathered old buildings, a massive fallen tree, and a small bridge crossing the creek each provided their own unique aesthetic, as well as much-needed shelter from the unpredictable weather. One moment we were shooting in warm sunshine, the next we were dodging passing rain showers.
The vision behind Natural in Nature is to celebrate the beauty of the human form in a stripped-back, honest way—blending dance, movement, and expression with a range of outdoor environments. Each location brings its own energy to the images, shaping how the body interacts with the space around it. As part of this evolving project, I’ve also decided to introduce an offshoot titled Natural Indoors, designed for those days when the weather simply refuses to cooperate.
While the final images from this series are intended to be predominantly black and white, this first shoot made it clear that colour still has an important place in the project. Depending on the location and the mood of the session, colour can add an entirely different dimension to the final result. As the project continues to grow, so too will the ways in which these moments are captured and shared.
