A Call for Dancers, Acrobats, and Gymnasts
The Natural in Nature photography project was born from a deep admiration for the work of photographer Richard Calmes. His ability to capture dancers with striking simplicity—placing them in raw, natural, or unexpected environments—sparked a creative idea that has since taken shape in this ongoing series.
What stood out most in Calmes’ work was the way minimal costuming brought attention to the dancer’s form, power, and grace. That same focus is at the heart of this project: highlighting expressive movement and physical artistry against the backdrop of nature and urban spaces.
While Natural in Nature is primarily centered on dancers, the project is also open to acrobats and gymnasts. The expressive athleticism they bring aligns perfectly with the aesthetic and energy of this series.
Participants should be comfortable wearing a flesh-toned leotard or similar wardrobe during the shoots. Locations are currently being finalized and will include a mix of metro and regional sites within a few hours’ drive. Because the creative direction varies by setting, this won’t be a single-day event—there will be multiple shoot dates to accommodate different concepts and scheduling needs.
Important note: For anyone under 18, a parent or legal guardian must attend all sessions and give direct permission due to the nature of the imagery and attire.
To get a better sense of the artistic vision behind the project, a curated set of reference images are available on request. These include close-ups, pose inspiration, and examples that reflect the balance of subject and environment that this series aims to achieve.
If this vision speaks to you and you’d like to be involved, please fill out the application form [APPLICATION LINK]. Once submitted, you’ll be added to the contact list for updates and scheduling.
Please note that this project is more for the over 16’s however if you feel you’d be suitable, I’m more than happy to discuss this with you.
Looking forward to collaborating with artists who share a passion for movement, nature, and meaningful visual storytelling.
